0 Apptainer versions prior to 1.5.1 have a vulnerability in the 'limit container paths' directive in apptainer.conf, which is intended to restrict container execution paths under setuid mode. Due to incorrect path string matching, sibling directories with similar names to allowed paths may also be permitted, potentially allowing unauthorized container execution. This issue is patched in version 1.5.1. The vulnerability only affects users who enable setuid mode and use the 'limit container paths' feature. If user namespaces are allowed unrestricted use, this functionality does not prevent running any container. No known exploits are reported in the wild.
