Noir is a cryptocurrency wallet-drainer malware kit that uses DNS TXT records and DNS-over-HTTPS (DoH) as a dynamic command-and-control mechanism. It queries public DoH services to locate active infrastructure hosted on Cloudflare Pages, enabling operators to redirect phishing lures by changing a single DNS record. The malware does not require victims to input seed phrases or private keys but instead requests wallet connection permissions and spending approvals, which appear less suspicious. Its architecture separates long-lived phishing lures from short-lived operational infrastructure, with DNS caching and retry logic. The kit is AI-assisted, with extensive code comments documenting its development, and is used across multiple cryptocurrency-themed phishing campaigns.

Infrastructure analysis reveals a cluster of SpiceRAT command and control servers active from late 2025 through August 2026, linked through shared TLS certificates, domain registrations, and a cloned RTX Corporation webpage. The infrastructure connects to multiple threat families including SpiceRAT, NodeEdgeRAT, NomadRAT, and BloodAlchemy, suggesting either a single operator managing multiple toolsets or shared support infrastructure. A TLS certificate impersonating Uzbekistan's railway authority was issued by TLC, a Chinese state-affiliated certificate authority. Domains spoof Central Asian government entities including Türkmengaz, the Galkynysh gas field, Tojiktelecom, and Turkmenistan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Passive DNS analysis reveals subdomain infrastructure dating to mid-2022, indicating at least four years of ongoing operations. The infrastructure shares characteristics with previously documented China-nexus actors FamousSparrow and IndigoZebra, both known for targeting Central Asian governm...

A cryptomining botnet compromised 3,562 Redis servers by exploiting unauthenticated Redis instances using rogue replication to inject cron jobs that deployed XMRig miners. The affected Redis versions range from 2.8.17 to 7.2.0 across various Linux distributions, indicating misconfiguration rather than a software vulnerability. The attacker toolkit, exposed via an open directory, contained exploit source code, campaign logs, and Windows registry hives. Additional attack vectors targeting WordPress, MongoDB, and SSH were included but did not result in confirmed compromises. The operation mined Monero using a wallet linked to the operator's own systems. Meterpreter deployment capabilities were also observed, extending the operator's activity timeline. No known exploits in the wild or vendor patches are documented.

On August 20, 2026, malicious versions of three Rust crates ([email protected], [email protected], and [email protected]) were published to crates.io. These crates included a typosquatted dependency named proc-macro1, whose build script downloads and executes a remote binary during compilation. This binary installs a backdoor that communicates with command and control servers over HTTPS, exfiltrates host and browser data, enumerates installed applications, and persists via common OS mechanisms such as Registry Run keys, LaunchAgents, or systemd user services. The attack infrastructure overlaps with North Korean threat actor operations, notably the Mastra campaign and previous DPRK-linked supply chain attacks. No official remediation guidance is currently available.

Peer2Profit and Astroproxy are bandwidth-sharing applications that recruit users to share their internet connections for payment. This bandwidth is then monetized through a commercial proxy service at significantly higher rates. The applications install through official channels with user consent, making them difficult to detect with traditional security tools. Researchers identified over 117,000 unique IPs in 72 hours, with rapid growth in residential IPs. Reverse engineering revealed the communications protocol and backconnect infrastructure managing proxy sessions. Testing showed these proxy networks can access internal network resources via DNS entries resolving to internal IPs, potentially exposing corporate assets. The scale and internal access capabilities present significant risks to organizations where employees run these applications.

A modular espionage framework targeting entities in Israel has evolved to incorporate sophisticated command-and-control capabilities. The framework employs DNS A-record responses to dynamically select between direct HTTPS connections and a Google Apps Script relay for each transaction, enabling operators to rotate communication channels and deployment identifiers. The communication module uses DNS infrastructure to validate and update Google Apps Script deployment IDs, while XOR encoding obfuscates command-and-control traffic. An inter-component broker coordinates framework DLL components, enabling runtime upgrades without system restarts. The infrastructure leveraged a previously expired Israeli domain, now repurposed with custom authoritative DNS servers, alongside legitimate Google services to blend malicious traffic with normal network activity.

Kaspersky identified a new .NET Native AOT communication module for Project CAV3RN, a sophisticated cyberespionage framework targeting Israel. This module replaces the previous HTTP/WebSocket component by exchanging commands through Outlook calendar events accessed via Microsoft Graph API. Commands and results are stored in a fixed time window (2050-05-13 22:00-23:00 UTC) using specific subject patterns to identify heartbeats, commands, and outputs. The module implements RSA and AES-GCM encryption for secure communications. If Microsoft Graph authentication fails, it retrieves replacement configuration settings through DNS AAAA record responses from actor-controlled nameservers. The infrastructure analysis and behavioral patterns suggest low-confidence attribution to OilRig (APT34), based on the use of Microsoft-hosted services for command and control and compromised regional infrastructure.

A sophisticated campaign deployed 148 malicious npm packages disguised as student web proxy applications under brands like Riverbend Tutoring and Northstar Tutoring. Published by accounts terminal3airport and eerikakirk, these packages weaponized visitor browsers into distributed denial-of-service botnets while generating advertising revenue. The applications functioned as working proxies but secretly executed mutable remote code and high-performance WebSocket traffic generators compatible with the Wisp protocol. During a critical two-week period in May 2026, active deployments launched HTTP floods generating 2GB/s aggregate traffic and control-plane attacks establishing 10,240 socket connections per second against target servers. The campaign abused npm as a content delivery network, affecting users who visited proxy instances rather than through traditional dependency infection.

An Android proxyware SDK named Popa enrolls consumer devices including phones, tablets, and streaming boxes into a commercial residential proxy network. Operating since at least 2020, Popa and its variants (Loopop, Neupop, and Moneytiser) are distributed inside consumer streaming, IPTV, and utility applications. The SDK begins relaying third-party traffic at host-app launch without displaying informed-consent prompts in analyzed samples. Multiple variants communicate directly with NetNut SDK endpoints, sharing operational infrastructure and telemetry. Controlled testing showed traffic from Popa-enrolled devices egressing through NetNut's commercial gateway. The SDK uses encrypted Google Drive files to resolve relay servers in later versions. Analysis of over 20 publishers revealed significant links to piracy-related applications, with none observed requesting user consent despite later builds including this capability.

A ClickFix social engineering attack on an unmonitored endpoint led to a multi-stage intrusion affecting over 11 hosts. The infection chain began with a malicious HTA payload that silently installed an MSI package containing Potemkin, a custom loader with a deterministic DGA. Potemkin delivered RMMProject, a 4.4 MB Lua-scriptable RAT featuring browser credential theft with Chrome App-Bound Encryption bypass, hidden-desktop remote control, and 15 distinct task types. The attacker deployed EtherRAT, a Node.js backdoor resolving C2 addresses from Ethereum blockchain, and established a Cloudflare tunnel for persistent access. Hands-on-keyboard activity included battling Windows Defender through AMSI patches, registry modifications, and service termination, followed by lateral movement via WMIExec and SMBExec to deploy malware across the network and reach the domain controller.
