0 A vulnerability in rsync before version 3.5.0 allows a malicious sender to manipulate path handling during --delete operations. This manipulation can cause rsync to delete files outside the intended destination directory by exploiting crafted file lists that reclassify parent directories or treat synthetic paths as the transfer root. Multiple variants of the attack exist, including issues with implied parent reclassification, synthetic root path construction, legacy protocol behavior below version 30, and non-directory root handling.
