CVE-2026-55831 is a medium severity vulnerability affecting Netty versions prior to 4.1.136.Final and 4.2.16.Final, as well as the strimzi-kafka-operator prior to 1.1.0-r2. It involves resource exhaustion issues (CWE-400) related to Netty's SPDY SETTINGS decoder accepting a peer-declared SETTINGS entry count up to the 24-bit frame-length. The vulnerability can cause denial of service due to resource exhaustion. No known exploits have been reported in the wild. The issue is addressed in strimzi-kafka-operator version 1.1.0-r2, which includes fixes for this and other vulnerabilities.
