A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's USB serial driver for Cypress M8 devices was resolved. The flaw involved improper validation of interrupt packet headers in the cypress_read_int_callback() function, which could lead to out-of-bounds reads. The issue was addressed by ensuring malformed short reports are ignored and the interrupt URB is resubmitted, preventing memory corruption. This vulnerability affects multiple Linux kernel versions prior to 7.0.0-28.28 and related builds. A patch is available and included in standard Linux kernel updates.
