A memory corruption vulnerability in the Linux kernel's USB serial safe_serial driver was fixed by ensuring the bulk-out buffer size is at least eight bytes. This prevents user-controlled slab corruption caused by malicious devices reporting smaller sizes. The vulnerability affects multiple Linux kernel versions prior to 7.0.0-28.28~24.04.1 and related builds. The issue was resolved in official Ubuntu kernel updates, which require a system reboot and recompilation of third-party kernel modules due to an ABI change.
