A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's USB Type-C UCSI CCG firmware update code could cause a kernel crash (oops) when processing crafted firmware images lacking a ':' record header. This occurs because the function do_flash() improperly handles firmware images without ':' bytes, leading to a NULL pointer dereference and kernel crash. A local root user with the ability to place files under /lib/firmware and write to the do_flash sysfs attribute can trigger this condition. The issue has been fixed in updated Linux kernel versions.
