A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's KVM subsystem for arm64 architecture was resolved, specifically in the vgic-its component. The flaw allowed userspace to restore an ITS Device Table Entry (DTE) with an out-of-range number of EventID bits, which was improperly accepted by the kernel, potentially leading to memory corruption or denial of service. This issue has been fixed by rejecting restored DTEs with num_eventid_bits exceeding the supported limit before device allocation. The vulnerability affects multiple versions of the linux-azure kernel prior to 7.0.0-28.28~24.04.1 and related builds. A patch is available and included in official Ubuntu security updates.
