A vulnerability in the Linux kernel related to the Linux Security Modules (LSM) framework was resolved by ensuring the cred_guard_mutex is held during the lsm_set_self_attr() function, similar to the existing behavior in proc_pid_attr_write(). This fix is relevant for SELinux and AppArmor security modules that check process ptrace status before allowing security transitions. The vulnerability could allow a local attacker with limited privileges to escalate their privileges. A patch is available and included in various Linux kernel updates for Ubuntu releases.
