AI-suggested

Red Hat has released official patches addressing this vulnerability. Users should apply the updates to sudo packages as provided in Red Hat advisories RHSA-2026:71609, RHSA-2026:75571, and others listed. Applying these updates will correct the handling of the TZ environment variable in time-based sudoers rules and prevent exploitation. No additional mitigation actions are required beyond applying the vendor-provided patches.

Description

A vulnerability in sudo affects time-based access restrictions using NOTBEFORE or NOTAFTER rules when timestamps omit the trailing 'Z' timezone indicator. The flaw allows an unprivileged local user to manipulate the TZ environment variable to shift the authorization window by up to approximately 25 hours, causing expired rules to be treated as valid. This enables execution of commands outside the intended time window without bypassing authentication.
