Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-90577 is a heap-based buffer overflow vulnerability in the gf_node_get_field function within the MP4Box component of GPAC, affecting versions up to commit f1219cde. The vulnerability arises from improper handling of data leading to memory corruption. Exploitation requires local access with low complexity and privileges, and no user interaction. The vulnerability impacts confidentiality, integrity, and availability to a limited extent. A patch identified by commit 49dee5cad329cfed310c1682703df7daa47df31a fixes the issue in GPAC version abi-16.23.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation can cause a heap-based buffer overflow, potentially leading to limited confidentiality, integrity, and availability impacts on the affected system. The attack requires local access and low privileges, limiting the scope of impact. A public exploit exists, increasing the risk of exploitation in vulnerable environments.

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade the affected GPAC component to version abi-16.23 or later, which includes the official patch (commit 49dee5cad329cfed310c1682703df7daa47df31a) addressing this vulnerability. No other mitigation is indicated or required.
