Discussion

This content announces the creation of an AI Security Wiki and an AI Secure by Design project, which provide a comprehensive, vendor-neutral resource for AI security governance, risk management, architecture, standards, and compliance. The authors emphasize that many recent AI-related security incidents stem from failures in fundamental security practices rather than AI technology itself. The projects aim to help organizations integrate security fundamentals into AI development and deployment to mitigate risks associated with AI-assisted attacks.

I'm pleased to announce that I survived an entire week without posting about AI-assisted breaches and their analysis. My Social Media feed, however, did not survive this wave

Every Morning

- Coffee

- Open LinkedIn or some media channel

- 20+ new Cyber Disasters and AI-assisted breaches

At some point, I stopped asking "What happened" and started asking "Which security layer or process is going to fail today?"

The funny thing is that all of these incidents keep reminding me of the same reality

Technology Changes, attack patterns change, and buzzwords change, but security fundamentals still refuse to go out of fashion

When me and Ankush started building AI security wiki pages https://github.com/nachi065/AI-Security-Wiki, and plugins for AI Secure by Design project https://github.com/ankush1982/ai-secure-by-design/, we genuinely didn’t think we’d need to write another post very soon to reinforce the same feeling.

The interesting part?

Most of these incidents are not failures of AI. They are failures of the same security fundamentals we’ve been talking about for years.

The technology has changed dramatically. The fundamentals have not.

Maybe it’s that we’re forgetting the lessons security teams have already learned the hard way over the last two decades.

- Build fast.

- Experiment freely.

- Innovate aggressively.

But don’t let security become an afterthought just because AI made development easier.

Attackers are embracing AI too.

Impact

The impact is primarily educational and preventative, aiming to reduce AI-related security incidents by promoting adherence to established security fundamentals within AI projects. There is no direct vulnerability or exploit described. Instead, the projects address the broader risk landscape of AI security and governance, helping organizations avoid failures that could lead to breaches or misuse of AI technologies.

Defensive guidance

No direct vulnerability or exploit is described, so no patch or fix is applicable. The recommended mitigation is to adopt and integrate the security fundamentals and best practices outlined in the AI Security Wiki and AI Secure by Design projects. Organizations should use these resources to guide secure AI development, governance, and compliance efforts, ensuring security is not an afterthought despite the rapid pace of AI innovation.

Summary

The AI Security Wiki and AI Secure by Design projects are community-driven initiatives hosted on GitHub that compile knowledge and best practices for securing AI systems throughout their lifecycle. They cover topics such as AI governance, risk management, security controls, compliance with various international AI regulations, and role-based playbooks. The authors highlight that despite rapid technological changes and AI adoption, security fundamentals remain critical and often neglected, leading to security failures. These resources are intended to reinforce foundational security principles in AI development and help organizations manage AI-related risks effectively.
