Vendor/Project: TP-Link Systems Inc.
Product: AXE75 V1

Description

An OS command injection vulnerability exists in the VPN module of TP-Link AXE75 V1 routers. This vulnerability allows an adjacent, authenticated attacker to execute arbitrary commands on the device by importing a specially crafted VPN client configuration file. The issue arises from improper filtering of special characters.  Successful exploitation of this vulnerability may enable an attacker to gain full control of the affected device, potentially compromising configuration integrity, network security, and service availability.

Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-9044 is an OS command injection vulnerability in the VPN module of TP-Link AXE75 V1 routers. The vulnerability results from improper filtering of special characters in the VPN client configuration import functionality. An attacker with adjacent network access and authentication privileges can exploit this by importing a maliciously crafted VPN client configuration file, enabling arbitrary command execution on the device. This can compromise the device's configuration, network security, and availability.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation allows an attacker to execute arbitrary OS commands on the affected router, potentially gaining full control of the device. This can compromise the router's configuration integrity, disrupt network security, and affect service availability.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until a patch is available, restrict access to the VPN configuration import functionality to trusted administrators and monitor for suspicious activity related to VPN configuration imports.
