AI-suggested
The vulnerability stems from the extension ignoring existing allowlist metadata and the documented insecure example implementation. Mitigation requires integrators to implement strict validation of the request_uri parameter against the registered allowlist (client metadata request_uris and server metadata require_request_uri_registration) before fetching. Additionally, implement RFC 9101 §10.4.1 controls: validate the media type of the fetched content, enforce timeouts, and prevent recursive fetches. Avoid using the documented example fetch method that blindly performs requests.get(request_uri). Monitor vendor advisories for any official fixes or updates.
Description
Authlib's implementation of the RFC 9101 JWT-secured authorization request (JAR) extension allows an unauthenticated Server-Side Request Forgery (SSRF) vulnerability via the unvalidated request_uri parameter. The extension passes the attacker-controlled request_uri directly to a fetch hook without validating against the existing allowlist or performing recommended checks such as media type validation or timeouts. This flaw exists in Authlib version 1.7.2 and the current main branch. The vulnerability arises because the documented example implementation encourages an insecure fetch method that blindly performs HTTP GET requests on attacker-controlled URIs before any authentication occurs.
