Technical Analysis

GitLab EE contained a missing authorization vulnerability affecting specific version ranges: >=18.4.0 <18.5.5, >=18.6.0 <18.6.3, and >=18.7.0 <18.7.1. The flaw allowed authenticated users to bypass namespace access controls and interact with AI model settings belonging to unauthorized namespaces by manipulating namespace identifiers in API requests. This could lead to unauthorized access and use of AI model configurations. The issue has been addressed by GitLab in the versions 18.5.5, 18.6.3, and 18.7.1 respectively.

Potential Impact

An authenticated user could gain unauthorized access to AI model settings in namespaces they do not have permission to access. This could lead to unauthorized viewing or modification of AI configurations, potentially impacting confidentiality and integrity of AI-related data within GitLab projects.

Mitigation Recommendations

Official fixes are available in GitLab EE versions 18.5.5, 18.6.3, and 18.7.1. Users should upgrade affected GitLab instances to these versions or later to remediate the vulnerability. No additional mitigations are indicated by the vendor advisory.
