AI-suggested

A fix is available in Cpanel::JSON::XS version 4.80 and later. Users should upgrade to version 4.80 or newer to resolve this memory leak. No vendor advisory or patch link was provided, so confirm patch availability from the official Cpanel::JSON::XS repository or vendor channels. Until patched, avoid processing untrusted JSON inputs that may contain duplicate keys or malformed keys to reduce risk.

Description

Cpanel::JSON::XS versions before 4.80 for Perl contain a memory leak vulnerability in the decode_hv function. When decoding JSON objects, if a key is rejected due to being a duplicate or missing a colon, the decoded key scalar is not freed, causing the process to retain memory. This leak can be exploited by sending repeated requests with large or specially crafted keys, potentially exhausting process memory.
