Source: GCVE Database
Product: crass

Description

Crass versions prior to 1.0.7 contain a vulnerability where processing CSS scientific notation numbers with very large exponents can cause excessive CPU and memory consumption, potentially leading to denial of service or application crashes. This occurs because Crass converts these numbers with unbounded exponentiation before clamping to Float::MAX. The issue is fixed in version 1.0.7.

Technical Analysis

The Crass library improperly handles CSS scientific notation number values with large exponents by performing unbounded exponentiation before clamping the result to Float::MAX. This flaw allows an attacker to craft CSS strings that cause the parser to consume disproportionate CPU and memory resources, potentially crashing the application using Crass. The vulnerability is tracked as CVE-2026-61845 and is fixed in Crass version 1.0.7.

Potential Impact

Applications using Crass to parse attacker-controlled CSS inputs can be forced into high CPU and memory usage, leading to denial of service or crashes. There is no indication of code execution or data leakage. The impact is limited to resource exhaustion.

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade Crass to version 1.0.7 or later, where this vulnerability is fixed. No other mitigations are indicated or necessary.
