Technical Analysis

CVE-2024-10866 is a missing authorization vulnerability in the Export Import Menus plugin for WordPress, affecting all versions up to and including 1.9.1. The vulnerability arises because the dsp_export_import_menus() function lacks a capability check, enabling unauthenticated users to export menu data and settings. This could lead to unauthorized disclosure of potentially sensitive configuration data. The CVSS 3.1 score is 5.3 (medium severity), with an attack vector of network, no privileges required, and no user interaction needed.

Potential Impact

An attacker can export menu data and settings from a vulnerable WordPress site without authentication, potentially exposing sensitive site configuration information. There is no indication of impact on integrity or availability, only confidentiality is affected at a low level.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until a fix is available, restrict access to the plugin's export/import functionality by limiting access to trusted users or disabling the plugin if not needed.
