Technical Analysis

CVE-2024-22447 is an uncontrolled search path element vulnerability in Dell Peripheral Manager before version 1.7.3. This vulnerability arises when the software loads DLLs from an untrusted or improperly controlled path, enabling an attacker with limited privileges and requiring user interaction to preload a malicious DLL. Successful exploitation could result in arbitrary code execution with high impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The CVSS vector indicates local attack vector, high attack complexity, low privileges required, and user interaction needed.

Potential Impact

If exploited, this vulnerability could allow an attacker to execute arbitrary code on the affected system, potentially compromising confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the system. The attack requires local access and user interaction, and has high impact on all three security properties.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the Dell vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until an official fix is released, users should exercise caution with untrusted DLLs and avoid executing unverified files. Monitor Dell's security advisories for updates and apply patches promptly once available.
