AI-suggested

Upgrade vantage6 to version 5.0.0 or later, where this vulnerability is fixed. No other workarounds or mitigations are available. Users should ensure their email accounts are protected with strong authentication measures, ideally 2FA, to reduce the risk of email account compromise.

Description

CVE-2024-27928 affects vantage6 versions prior to 5.0.0 and involves the reduction of two-factor authentication (2FA) to single-factor authentication (1FA) via email account compromise. An attacker who gains access to a user's email can reset both the password and the 2FA token through email, bypassing the intended 2FA protection. This issue is fixed in vantage6 version 5.0.0. No workarounds are available. The risk is somewhat mitigated by the fact that most email providers require 2FA for email access, reducing the likelihood of exploitation.
