Published: 10/14/2026 (10/14/2026, 20:20:23 UTC)
Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: error311
Product: FileRise

Description

FileRise versions prior to 3.16.0 have a vulnerability in their WebDAV Basic authentication implementation where the second factor of authentication (TOTP) is not enforced. This allows an attacker with valid primary credentials to bypass two-factor authentication and access WebDAV file permissions. The issue is fixed in version 3.16.0.

Technical Analysis

FileRise is a self-hosted web-based file manager. Before version 3.16.0, when WebDAV is enabled, the Basic authentication mechanism validates only the username and password via AuthModel::authenticate() and does not require the configured TOTP second factor. This means that accounts configured with TOTP can be accessed via WebDAV with only the primary credentials, bypassing the intended two-factor authentication. The browser login enforces TOTP correctly, but the separate public/webdav.php authentication callback does not. This vulnerability is tracked as CVE-2026-57490 and is fixed in version 3.16.0.

Potential Impact

An attacker who knows valid username and password credentials for a TOTP-enabled account can bypass the second factor and authenticate to the WebDAV service. This allows unauthorized access to the account's WebDAV file permissions, potentially leading to unauthorized file access or modification. The vulnerability does not affect the browser login path, which enforces TOTP correctly.

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade FileRise to version 3.16.0 or later, where this issue is fixed. Prior to upgrading, consider disabling WebDAV if possible to prevent exploitation. Patch status is confirmed fixed in 3.16.0.
