AI-suggested

To mitigate CVE-2024-28562, organizations should first monitor for and apply any official patches or updates released by the FreeImage project addressing this vulnerability. In the absence of patches, consider the following specific mitigations: 1) Restrict local access to systems running FreeImage to trusted users only, minimizing the risk of local exploitation. 2) Employ application whitelisting and endpoint protection solutions to detect and prevent unauthorized code execution. 3) Use sandboxing or containerization for applications processing untrusted EXR images to contain potential exploitation. 4) Implement strict input validation and sanitization on image files before processing, if possible, to detect malformed or malicious EXR files. 5) Monitor system logs and behavior for unusual activity related to image processing components. 6) Educate users and administrators about the risks of processing untrusted image files locally. These targeted mitigations go beyond generic advice by focusing on controlling local access, containment, and proactive detection.

Description
