A fix is available in the Linux kernel source code as indicated by the fixed commit versions. Users and administrators should update to a Linux kernel version that includes the patches identified by the commit hashes f9747a7521a48afded5bff2faf1f2dcfff48c577, f0813bcd2d9d97fdbdf2efb9532ab03ae92e99e6, af4b8577d0b388cc3d0039eb0cdd9ca5bbbc9276, 2c0fb0f60bc1545c52da61bc6bd4855c1e7814ba, or 2a0522f564acd34442652ea083091c329fa7c5d5. Applying these patches prevents the buffer overflow by enforcing fragment count bounds. No additional mitigations are specified or required beyond applying the official fix.
Description
CVE-2026-23172 is a high-severity vulnerability in the Linux kernel's wwan t7xx driver. It involves a potential buffer overflow in the skb->frags array during packet reception in the DPMAIF RX path. The vulnerability arises because the function t7xx_dpmaif_set_frag_to_skb() does not check if the number of fragments exceeds the maximum allowed, which can lead to memory corruption and kernel crashes. The issue is fixed by adding a bounds check before adding fragments to the skb. This flaw affects Linux kernel version 5.19.
