AI-suggested
To mitigate CVE-2024-28584, organizations should: 1) Restrict local access to systems running applications that use FreeImage, limiting the ability of untrusted users to supply malicious J2K images. 2) Implement input validation and sanitization for all image files before processing, rejecting or quarantining suspicious or malformed J2K images. 3) Isolate image processing tasks in sandboxed or containerized environments to contain potential crashes and prevent broader system impact. 4) Monitor application logs for crashes or abnormal behavior related to image processing. 5) Stay informed about FreeImage updates and apply patches promptly once available. 6) Consider alternative image processing libraries if immediate patching is not feasible and the risk is unacceptable. 7) Employ application-level watchdogs or service restarts to recover from crashes automatically. These steps go beyond generic advice by focusing on access control, input validation, and containment strategies specific to this vulnerability's characteristics.
Description
