AI-suggested
- Restrict access to CuteHttpFileServer instances to trusted users only, employing strict network segmentation and access controls to minimize local or low-privilege access opportunities.
- Implement file system permissions that limit the CuteHttpFileServer process to only necessary directories, preventing traversal to sensitive files.
- Monitor server logs and file access patterns for unusual or unauthorized file download attempts, especially those involving directory traversal sequences (e.g., ../).
- Use application-layer firewalls or intrusion detection systems configured to detect and block path traversal attack patterns targeting the file server.
- Until an official patch is released, consider disabling or restricting the vulnerable file download functionality if feasible.
- Conduct regular security audits and penetration testing focused on file path validation and access control mechanisms.
- Educate system administrators about the vulnerability and the importance of minimizing privilege levels for users and services interacting with the file server.
- Prepare to apply official patches promptly once available and verify their effectiveness through testing.
Description
CuteHttpFileServer v.3.1 version has an arbitrary file download vulnerability, which allows attackers to download arbitrary files on the server and obtain sensitive information.
