Description

libxmljs2 contains a type confusion vulnerability when parsing specially crafted XML and invoking a function on the result of attrs() from a parsed node. This flaw can lead to denial of service on both 32-bit and 64-bit systems, data leaks, infinite loops, and remote code execution on 32-bit systems with the XML_PARSE_HUGE flag enabled.

Technical Analysis

CVE-2024-34393 is a type confusion vulnerability (CWE-843) in libxmljs2 that occurs during XML parsing when a function is called on the result of attrs() from a parsed node. This vulnerability can cause denial of service on 32-bit and 64-bit architectures, data leakage, infinite loops, and potentially remote code execution on 32-bit systems if the XML_PARSE_HUGE flag is enabled.

Potential Impact

The vulnerability allows attackers to cause denial of service conditions, leak sensitive data, trigger infinite loops, and execute arbitrary code remotely on 32-bit systems with XML_PARSE_HUGE enabled. The CVSS 3.1 score is 8.1 (high), indicating a significant security risk with network attack vector, high complexity, no privileges or user interaction required, and impacts on confidentiality, integrity, and availability.

Mitigation Recommendations

No official patch or remediation details are provided in the input data. Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until a fix is available, avoid processing untrusted XML inputs or disable the XML_PARSE_HUGE flag on 32-bit systems if possible.
