Technical Analysis

CVE-2024-34394 describes a type confusion vulnerability in libxmljs2 versions up to 0.37.0. The issue occurs during XML parsing when the namespaces() function invokes XmlNode::get_local_namespaces() on a grand-child node that refers to an entity. This improper handling leads to type confusion, which can be exploited to cause denial of service or potentially remote code execution.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation of this vulnerability can allow an attacker to cause denial of service or execute arbitrary code remotely, impacting confidentiality, integrity, and availability of affected systems.
