AI-suggested

Given that AChecker 1.5 is no longer supported and no official patches are available, organizations should prioritize removing or replacing the vulnerable software with a maintained alternative. If immediate removal is not feasible, implement strict network-level access controls to restrict access to the affected download.php endpoint, such as IP whitelisting or VPN-only access. Employ web application firewalls (WAFs) with custom rules to detect and block path traversal attempts targeting the 'path' parameter. Conduct thorough audits to identify any instances of AChecker 1.5 in the environment, including legacy systems. Additionally, review and harden file system permissions to limit the web server's access to sensitive files, minimizing the impact if exploitation occurs. Regularly monitor logs for suspicious access patterns indicative of path traversal attempts. Finally, educate development and operations teams about the risks of using unsupported software and the importance of timely patching or replacement.

Description

AChecker 1.5 allows remote attackers to read the contents of arbitrary files via the download.php path parameter by using Unauthenticated Path Traversal. This occurs through readfile in PHP. NOTE: This vulnerability only affects products that are no longer supported by the maintainer.
