What to do

AI-suggested

  1. Immediately restrict external access to the password reset functionality by implementing network-level controls such as IP whitelisting or VPN-only access.
  2. Monitor logs for unusual password reset requests, especially those targeting administrator accounts, and set up alerts for suspicious activity.
  3. Enforce multi-factor authentication (MFA) on administrative accounts to reduce the risk of unauthorized access even if the password is reset.
  4. Disable or temporarily remove the Forgot Password feature for administrator accounts until a patch is available.
  5. Engage with R-HUB support or vendor channels to obtain official patches or updates addressing this vulnerability.
  6. Conduct a thorough audit of accounts and system configurations post-incident to detect any unauthorized changes.
  7. Educate administrators and users about the risk and encourage strong password policies and regular credential reviews.
  8. Consider deploying web application firewalls (WAFs) with custom rules to detect and block exploitation attempts targeting the password reset endpoint.

Description

The password-reset mechanism in the Forgot Password functionality in R-HUB TurboMeeting through 8.x allows unauthenticated remote attackers to force the application into resetting the administrator's password to a random insecure 8-digit value.
