A patch is available and has been released in fixed kernel versions including 4.4.0-1135.141, 4.15.0-1180.195~14.04.1, and others. Users should update their Linux kernel to one of the fixed versions to remediate this issue. After updating, a system reboot is required to apply the fix. No additional mitigation actions are necessary beyond applying the official kernel updates.
Description
CVE-2024-39484 is a vulnerability in the Linux kernel's mmc: davinci driver where the remove function is incorrectly marked with __exit. This causes the remove callback to be discarded when the driver is built-in, leading to resource leaks when the device is unbound. The issue has been fixed by ensuring the remove callback is always compiled in, preventing resource leaks and addressing a modpost warning.
