Technical Analysis

CVE-2024-40101 describes a reflected XSS vulnerability in Microweber versions 2.0.15 and earlier. The issue occurs in the '/search' endpoint where the 'keywords' parameter is not properly sanitized, enabling attackers to inject malicious scripts or HTML. This vulnerability can be exploited remotely without authentication and affects confidentiality and integrity but not availability. No vendor advisory or patch information is currently available.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation allows an attacker to execute arbitrary scripts in the context of the victim's browser, potentially leading to theft of sensitive information, session hijacking, or other client-side attacks. The vulnerability impacts confidentiality and integrity but does not affect system availability. There are no known exploits in the wild at this time.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until a fix is available, consider implementing input validation or web application firewall (WAF) rules to block malicious payloads targeting the 'keywords' parameter in the '/search' endpoint.
