What to do

AI-suggested

To mitigate CVE-2024-42697, organizations should first verify if they are using Leotheme Leo Product Search Module version 2.1.6 or earlier. If so, they should monitor for official patches or updates from the vendor and apply them promptly once available. In the absence of patches, implement strict input validation and output encoding on the 'q' parameter to neutralize malicious scripts. Employ Content Security Policy (CSP) headers to restrict the execution of unauthorized scripts. Additionally, enable HTTP-only and Secure flags on cookies to reduce the risk of session theft. Educate users to avoid clicking suspicious links and consider deploying Web Application Firewalls (WAFs) with custom rules to detect and block XSS payloads targeting the search parameter. Regularly audit and test the web application for XSS vulnerabilities using automated scanners and manual penetration testing. Finally, maintain robust incident response plans to quickly address any exploitation attempts.

Description

Cross Site Scripting vulnerability in Leotheme Leo Product Search Module v.2.1.6 and earlier allows a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code via the q parameter of the product search function.
