A patch is available and has been released in multiple fixed versions of the Linux kernel 5.15 series for Ubuntu 20.04 LTS and related distributions. Users should upgrade to one of the fixed kernel versions listed in the advisory to remediate this vulnerability. No additional mitigation actions are required once patched.
Description
CVE-2024-45007 is a vulnerability in the Linux kernel's xillybus character device driver where a workqueue may be destroyed from within a work item running on it, an illegal operation. This issue is resolved by introducing a module-global workqueue for the offending work item, preventing destruction of its own workqueue. The vulnerability affects certain Linux kernel versions prior to fixed releases in the 5.15 series and some specific older versions. The flaw can cause denial of service by crashing the system but does not impact confidentiality or integrity.
