A patch is available and should be applied. Fixed kernel versions include 5.15.0-1072.78~20.04.1 and later. Users should upgrade to these or newer kernel versions to remediate the deadlock issue. No additional mitigation actions are required beyond applying the official fix.
Description
CVE-2024-46791 is a deadlock vulnerability in the Linux kernel's mcp251x CAN driver. The issue occurs when an interrupt happens during the mcp251x_open function, causing a deadlock due to improper mutex handling and interrupt disabling. The vulnerability has been fixed by replacing disable_irq() with disable_irq_nosync() to avoid waiting on the interrupt handler while holding the mutex. This flaw affects certain Linux kernel versions and has a medium severity score.
