AI-suggested
A patch is available and should be applied promptly. Ubuntu has released fixed kernel versions including 5.4.0-1135.145~18.04.1 and later. Users should update to these or newer kernel versions to mitigate the vulnerability. No additional mitigation steps are indicated by the vendor advisory.
Description
A race condition vulnerability in the Linux kernel's generic radix tree implementation was fixed. The flaw occurs in the __genradix_ptr_alloc() function when multiple threads concurrently increase the tree depth, potentially causing a preallocated node to retain stale pointers. This could lead to memory corruption or other serious impacts. The issue affects various Linux kernel versions prior to fixed releases in the 5.4.x series and others. A patch is available and has been released by Ubuntu and other distributors.
