What to do
AI-suggested
To mitigate CVE-2024-48294, organizations should implement strict controls on the handling of PDF files, especially those from untrusted or unknown sources. Users should be trained to avoid opening suspicious PDFs and to verify the origin of documents before opening. Employ application whitelisting and sandboxing techniques to isolate the PDF reader process and limit the impact of crashes. Monitor application logs and system stability to detect frequent crashes that may indicate exploitation attempts. Restrict local user privileges to minimize the risk of exploitation by low-privilege users. Organizations should track vendor communications closely and apply patches or updates as soon as they become available. Additionally, consider using alternative PDF readers with a stronger security track record until a fix is released. Network segmentation and endpoint protection solutions can help reduce the risk of malicious PDF files reaching vulnerable systems.
