AI-suggested
A patch is available and has been released in multiple fixed Linux kernel versions starting from 5.15.0-1066.69~20.04.1 and later. Users should update to these fixed kernel versions to remediate the vulnerability. No additional mitigation steps are required beyond applying the official kernel updates.
Description
CVE-2024-49858 is a vulnerability in the Linux kernel's efistub/tpm component where the TPM event log memory region is incorrectly marked as EFI_LOADER_DATA instead of EFI_ACPI_RECLAIM_MEMORY. This causes the memory region to be left unreserved in the E820 memory map passed to the kernel during kexec, potentially leading to memory corruption and kernel crashes when parsing the TPM event log. The issue has been fixed by changing the memory type to EFI_ACPI_RECLAIM_MEMORY, which is properly reserved.
