What to do

AI-suggested

A fix is available that adds a validation check to ensure the CPU index is valid before calling cpumask_clear_cpu() in exit_round_robin(). Users should apply the official kernel patch or update to a fixed kernel version once released. No other mitigation is indicated.

Description

CVE-2024-49935 is a vulnerability in the Linux kernel's ACPI PAD driver that causes occasional kernel crashes. The crash occurs in the exit_round_robin() function due to an invalid memory access triggered by clearing a CPU bit with an out-of-range index (0xffffffff). This happens because the code does not verify that the CPU index is valid before calling cpumask_clear_cpu(), leading to misaligned memory access and kernel paging faults. The issue is fixed by adding a check to ensure the CPU index is not -1 before clearing the CPU bit.
