What to do

AI-suggested

A fix for this vulnerability has been implemented in the Linux kernel source code. Users and administrators should apply the official kernel updates that include this patch to remediate the issue. Since this is a kernel-level vulnerability, upgrading to a fixed kernel version is the recommended mitigation.

Description

CVE-2024-50056 addresses a vulnerability in the Linux kernel's USB gadget UVC driver where improper handling of error pointers (ERR_PTR) could lead to a null pointer dereference or similar fault. The issue occurs in functions find_format_by_pix(), uvc_v4l2_enum_format(), and uvc_v4l2_try_format() within the uvc_v4l2.c source file. This flaw has been fixed by correcting the dereferencing of ERR_PTR values to prevent potential kernel crashes.
