What to do

AI-suggested

A fix has been implemented in the Linux kernel to set the SDEV_OFFLINE flag for all logical units except WLUN during UFS shutdown, preventing deadlocks. Users should update to a Linux kernel version that includes this fix once available. Since no vendor advisory or patch links are provided, check the official Linux kernel repositories or vendor advisories for the fixed kernel versions and apply updates accordingly.

Description

CVE-2024-50098 addresses a deadlock issue in the Linux kernel's UFS SCSI core during system reboot at early boot stages. The problem occurred because the SDEV_QUIESCE flag was set for all logical units (LUs) during UFS shutdown, causing the audio driver to deadlock while waiting on a mutex held by blk_mq_submit_bio(). The fix involves setting the SDEV_OFFLINE flag for all LUs except the well-known logical unit (WLUN) to ensure any I/O after UFS shutdown returns an error, preventing deadlocks.
