What to do

AI-suggested

A fix has been implemented in the Linux kernel to ensure the PRMT locates and uses EFI_MEMORY_RUNTIME memory blocks for the PRM handler and context. Systems should apply the official Linux kernel update that includes this fix. No additional mitigation actions are specified or required beyond applying the patch.

Description

CVE-2024-50141 is a medium severity vulnerability in the Linux kernel's ACPI PRM handler related to incorrect memory type usage for EFI runtime services. The PRMT component was incorrectly locating EFI_CONVENTIONAL_MEMORY blocks instead of EFI_MEMORY_RUNTIME blocks for the PRM handler and context. This mismatch causes exceptions during runtime service calls, leading to paging request errors and potential failures in error handling. The issue is resolved by ensuring the PRMT finds and uses memory blocks with the EFI_MEMORY_RUNTIME attribute, which are properly remapped for runtime by the firmware.
