What to do
AI-suggested
A fix has been implemented in the Linux kernel to add strict validation of timespec64 values in pc_clock_settime(). Users and administrators should apply the official kernel updates that include this fix. Since this is a kernel-level vulnerability, upgrading to the patched kernel version is the recommended remediation. No additional mitigations are indicated.
Description
CVE-2024-50195 addresses a vulnerability in the Linux kernel's posix-clock implementation where the function pc_clock_settime() lacked a strict validation check on the timespec64 structure. This omission could allow invalid time values to be passed to certain PTP clock drivers, potentially causing issues such as denial of service. The flaw has been fixed by adding a strict validation check using timespec64_valid_strict() to ensure that time values are within valid ranges before being applied.
