What to do

AI-suggested

The vulnerability has been resolved in the Linux kernel by modifying the unuse_vma function to skip HugeTLB pages, preventing the bad pud error and ensuring proper freeing of these pages. Users should apply the official kernel update containing this fix once available. Patch status is not explicitly confirmed in the provided data; check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance.

Description

CVE-2024-50199 is a vulnerability in the Linux kernel's memory management subsystem related to handling HugeTLB pages during swapoff operations. Specifically, a bad pud (Page Upper Directory) error occurs when swapoff is called after allocating and swapping out anonymous HugeTLB memory, causing these HugeTLB pages to not be freed properly. This results in a loss of 1GB HugeTLB memory. The issue is fixed by skipping HugeTLB pages in the unuse_vma function to prevent the bad pud error.
