What to do

AI-suggested

To mitigate CVE-2024-51020, organizations should first restrict access to the router's management interface to trusted devices only, ideally through network segmentation or firewall rules that block access to the usbISP_detail_edit.cgi endpoint from untrusted sources. Disabling remote management features or restricting them to secure VPN connections can reduce exposure. Monitoring network traffic for unusual POST requests targeting the vulnerable CGI endpoint can help detect exploitation attempts. Additionally, implementing network access controls such as 802.1X authentication and strong Wi-Fi encryption can limit attacker access to the local network. Regularly reviewing router logs and conducting vulnerability scans can aid in early detection of exploitation attempts.

Description

Netgear R7000P v1.3.3.154 was discovered to contain a stack overflow via the apn parameter at usbISP_detail_edit.cgi. This vulnerability allows attackers to cause a Denial of Service (DoS) via a crafted POST request.
