AI-suggested
To mitigate CVE-2024-51135, organizations should immediately disable external entity processing in the DocumentBuilderFactory XML parser configuration. This can be done by setting features such as 'http://apache.org/xml/features/disallow-doctype-decl' to true and disabling external general and parameter entities. If possible, upgrade to a patched version of powertac-server once available. In the absence of an official patch, implement network-level protections such as firewall rules to restrict access to powertac-server endpoints only to trusted sources. Employ input validation and sanitization to detect and block malicious XML payloads. Monitor logs for unusual XML processing errors or suspicious requests indicative of XXE exploitation attempts. Conduct thorough security assessments and penetration testing focusing on XML processing components. Additionally, consider deploying Web Application Firewalls (WAFs) with rules targeting XXE attack patterns to provide an additional layer of defense.
Description
An XML External Entity (XXE) vulnerability in the component DocumentBuilderFactory of powertac-server v1.9.0 allows attackers to access sensitive information or execute arbitrary code via supplying a crafted request containing malicious XML entities.
