What to do

AI-suggested

To mitigate CVE-2024-52946, organizations should immediately upgrade LemonLDAP::NG to version 2.20.1 or later, where the vulnerability has been addressed. In addition to patching, administrators must audit and revise adaptive authentication rules to avoid using increment-based authentication level increases; instead, use absolute values to prevent logic flaws. Implement strict access controls to limit the number of users with privileges to configure authentication policies. Monitor authentication logs for unusual session refresh activities that could indicate exploitation attempts. Employ multi-factor authentication (MFA) to reduce the risk of compromised credentials being used to exploit this vulnerability. Regularly review and test IAM configurations and conduct penetration testing focused on authentication mechanisms. Finally, maintain an incident response plan tailored to identity and access management breaches to quickly contain and remediate any exploitation.

Description

An issue was discovered in LemonLDAP::NG before 2.20.1. An Improper Check during session refresh allows an authenticated user to raise their authentication level if the admin configured an "Adaptative authentication rule" with an increment instead of an absolute value.
