AI-suggested

To mitigate CVE-2024-53457, organizations should first restrict the ability to modify device Display Name parameters to trusted administrators only, minimizing the attack surface. Implement strict input validation and output encoding on all user-supplied data fields, especially those rendered in the web interface, to prevent injection of malicious scripts. Monitor web application logs and user activity for unusual or unauthorized changes to device settings. Employ Content Security Policy (CSP) headers to limit the execution of unauthorized scripts in browsers. Until an official patch is released, consider deploying web application firewalls (WAFs) with rules to detect and block XSS payloads targeting LibreNMS. Educate users about the risks of clicking on suspicious links or interacting with untrusted content within the monitoring system. Regularly update LibreNMS to the latest versions once patches addressing this vulnerability become available. Conduct security assessments and penetration testing focused on web interface vulnerabilities to identify and remediate similar issues proactively.

Description

A stored cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability in the Device Settings section of LibreNMS v24.9.0 to v24.10.0 allows attackers to execute arbitrary web scripts or HTML via a crafted payload injected into the Display Name parameter.
