AI-suggested
To mitigate CVE-2024-53617, organizations should implement the following specific measures: 1) Immediately update LibrePhotos to the version including commit 32237 or later where the vulnerability is fixed. 2) Restrict file upload types strictly to safe image formats (e.g., JPEG, PNG) and disallow HTML or other executable content uploads. 3) Implement robust access controls and authorization checks on file upload endpoints to prevent IDOR exploitation, ensuring only authorized users can upload files and that uploaded files are properly scoped to the uploader’s permissions. 4) Sanitize and validate all uploaded content to neutralize any embedded scripts or malicious payloads. 5) Employ Content Security Policy (CSP) headers to limit the impact of any injected scripts. 6) Monitor logs for unusual file upload activities or admin account behaviors. 7) Educate administrators on the risks of uploading untrusted files and enforce the principle of least privilege for admin accounts. 8) Conduct regular security audits and penetration testing focused on file upload functionalities.
Description
A Cross Site Scripting vulnerability in LibrePhotos before commit 32237 allows attackers to takeover any account via uploading an HTML file on behalf of the admin user using IDOR in file upload.
