What to do

AI-suggested

A fix is available that removes the retry loop and causes the function to fail with ENAMETOOLONG when the path length exceeds PATH_MAX. Users should apply the official Linux kernel patch that addresses this issue. No other mitigations are indicated.

Description

CVE-2024-53685 is a denial-of-service vulnerability in the Linux kernel's Ceph filesystem code. The function ceph_mdsc_build_path() enters an endless retry loop if the constructed path length exceeds PATH_MAX, causing the affected task to block indefinitely and rendering much of the system unusable. The issue has been resolved by removing the retry loop and returning an ENAMETOOLONG error instead.
