What to do

A fix for this vulnerability has been implemented in the Linux kernel. Users and administrators should apply the official Linux kernel updates that include this fix to prevent the memory leak. No additional mitigation steps are required beyond applying the patch.

Description

CVE-2024-56742 addresses a memory leak issue in the Linux kernel's vfio/mlx5 driver. The flaw occurs in the mlx5vf_add_migration_pages() function where allocated pages that fail to be added to the scatter-gather (SG) table are not freed properly. This can lead to a memory leak. Pages successfully added to the SG table are freed correctly by mlx5vf_free_data_buffer(). The vulnerability has been fixed in the Linux kernel.
